Arrive Geraldine mid to late afternoon, meet, greet and welcome in Geraldine. Afternoon tea and meet homestay hosts in nearby Woodbury. |
| DAY 1: |
Informal language practice: introductions, everyday greetings, farm and rural activities. Morning tea.
Morning visit to local school, cultural exchange, origami, ‘show and tell’. Lunch at home.
Afternoon visit to working farm including sheep dog demonstrations, farm talk, lambs, sheep, cattle. Afternoon tea. Orientation visit to Geraldine. |
| DAY 2: |
Option 1:
Informal language practice: Maori words, culture, customs. Morning tea.
Morning visit to a local marae. Maori customs, culture and kapa haka (performance). Café lunch in Timaru with ocean to alps views.
Afternoon visit Timaru: South Canterbury pioneer museum, afternoon on Caroline Bay, Festival of Roses events (subject to dates.)
Option 2:
Informal language practice: Scenic New Zealand, local history and pioneer culture, Tekapo. Morning tea. Drive to Lake Tekapo.
Afternoon visit Tekapo: Lunch at hot pools/spa complex, sightseeing, historic church, dog statue, Mt John Observatory (pools, spa, ice-skating activities not included in package).
Bonus Saturday night: real Kiwi culture fish and chips takeaway and movie night at home. Movies own choice (e.g. Whale Rider, World’s Fastest Indian etc). Hosts welcome. |
| DAY 3: |
Informal language practice: writing (thank you letters to hosts); morning tea.
Morning visit around Woodbury village, walk, bike ride, historic church, sports ground for games (e.g. learn touch rugby), and/or creative art activity, depending on weather. Lunch at home.
Afternoon visit to Peel Forest for horse-riding and bush walk (cost not included in package).
